“How To Make A Book With Steidl…”

steidl

While working away on my book, I ran across this documentary on Netflix. I have long admired books published by Steidl, and even have a few. Not only does the film give you a good idea what all is involved in this process, but it also follows Gerhard Steidl all over the world as he interacts with the artists whoes work he publishes. From Robert Frank to Günter Grass, and Joel Sternfeld to Robert Adams we get an interesting glimpse into the lives of these artist that we seldom see otherwise.

  1. “Fuck the mid-tones!” Great documentary!

  2. I’m looking forward to having at look at this, Christian. I hadn’t heard of Steidl before, so I’m very interested to find out more.
