“D&W’s Bait House…”

I totally do NOT understand why a simple photograph like this feels so satisfying. Is it because I ‘have seen it so often before?’ Is the photograph of a ‘rustic’ sign such a cliché that it calms me? Perhaps it could fit into one of Geoff Dyer’s riffs of ‘ongoing moments’ in photography where he traces images as varied as a photo of a broom from William Fox Talbot to Paul Strand or a bench from Brassai to Gerry Winogrand.
